ICAO Supports Uzbekistan’s Efforts to Ensure Safe and Sustainable Aviation
Last week, during an official visit to Uzbekistan, ICAO Regional Director Nicolas Rallo had the privilege of meeting and exchanging views with Jamshid Avdukhakimovich Khodjaev, Deputy Prime Minister, and Ilkhom Rustamovich Makhkamov, Minister of Transport.
He also held substantive discussions with the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA) management, representatives of the Ministry of Transport, and the country’s four air carriers (Uzbekistan Airways, Centrum, Qanot Sharq, and Air Samarkand).
The discussions focused on the significant growth in aviation activity in Uzbekistan (the world’s only landlocked developing country surrounded by other landlocked countries), as well as ongoing efforts to improve aviation safety. These efforts include institutional reforms, actions to strengthen safety oversight, development of accident investigation capabilities, safety management and operational safety.
These initiatives are being implemented within the framework of a joint approach of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and leading partners (Direction Generale de l'Aviation Civile, BEA | Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la sécurité de l'aviation civile, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), ACI EUROPE, ACI World - Airports Council International, as well as Airbus and Boeing). The support is provided in line with the "Country Strategic Action Plan (COSPA)" adopted in 2024.
In addition, LTAG was discussed and the terms of participation in the ACTSAF programme were signed on behalf of the ICAO Secretary General, Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar.
